Sample Project:
Design of an Institutional Improvement Process
When a large university’s executive vice president asked its planning and institutional research office to create an administrative program review process, Tom Clay & Associates, Inc. was retained to make it happen. We began by researching comparable processes at other universities and benchmarking against the best, while remaining focused on creating a program suited to our client’s own culture and needs. After defining steps, decisions, milestones and anticipated challenges, we designed an office to administer the program and worked with a hiring committee to identify candidates and hire a director. Using the same committee as an advisory board, we designed the administrative program review process in detail and articulated the composition, selection criteria, and roles and responsibilities for the process’s various teams, committees and individuals. Finally, we defined criteria for selecting units to participate in a pilot, and created comprehensive process documentation.
